Nestled in a protected box canyon surrounded by high cliffs of Douglas fir and Ponderosa Pine … LIGHTNER CREEK CAMPGROUND comprises 27 acres complete with a seasonal mountain stream that makes the perfect setting for nature lovers of all ages.
The campground is owned and operated by outdoor enthusiasts and we enjoy sharing our passion of camping and the great outdoors. Whether you plan on sitting back and listening to the sounds of the surrounding nature, hiking the Dry Fork Trails of Perins Wilderness State Park, or visiting any of the other local attractions, the LIGHTNER CREEK CAMPGROUND experience is postcard perfect.
The paved county road off HWY 160W to our campground is well maintained, making the 1.5 mile drive easily accessible, regardless of what you are bringing. The drive to downtown Durango is a quick 5 miles.
Our mountain climate is ideal: cool average temperature most evenings during the summer months. We are located at 7,000′ elevation, so our days can be tee shirt warm with evenings chilly enough for a sweater.

Juniper and camp hosts work hard to give you a great experience. She is friendly, helpful and makes you feel like a special guest. When you pull in she will furnish you with whatever you need and wants to make sure you are satisfied with your stay. We stayed there 6 weeks this summer and hope to go back soon...
Loved it here the site offered almost everything we needed while camping there. From selling ice, to renting a fire pit, propane tank refills, and even adapters for the RV plugs in the site. The place was clean and close to everything in the area
